Zhang Xiaogang
Zhang Xiaogang is a contemporary Chinese painter, known for his contribution to the 90s art movement in China called Political Pop. Born in 1958, Zhang’s work blends the personal and political, reflecting the psychological impact of the Cultural Revolution on the Chinese people. His “Bloodline” series, which features stylized, monochrome portraits of Chinese families, is his most recognized work. These paintings often possess a dreamlike, surreal quality, with recurring motifs of red lines or patches symbolizing blood ties and political affiliations.
